Dramatic results from an actual recombinant DNA exercise Bacteria that glow in the dark? It's possible with our lab activity, in which students perform true gene transfer between two different types of organisms, instead of merely between two types of bacteria. We provide you with the bacteria and plasmid DNA with the luminescence gene from a firefly. Students transfer the firefly gene to the bacteria, then employ a chemical substrate to make the bacteria glow. You don't even need an ultraviolet light; just dim the lights in your lab. You will get enough materials for six lab groups, teacher's guide, and student copymaster. Micropipets, required, are available separately. Note: Coupon included for perishable materials. Redeem by mail, fax, phone, or e-mail.
