Towering Toothpick Disaster

Challenge young engineers to design and build a three-story �earthquake resistant� structure using only a set amount of glue, toothpicks, craft sticks, wooden splints, Styrofoam� and their own ingenuity. A base isolator can also be built from materials students select and supply. Once complete, students can actually test whether their structure withstands an �earthquake� by using teacher Ric Parlier�s specially designed Shake, Rattle and Roll Earthquake Board. Includes instructions. Grades 6�9.
