Fun with Fractions!
The fraction kit is the single most useful and effective manipulative for helping students develop fraction understanding and skills. The kit is great for beginners who are just learning about naming and representing fractions, for fourth graders who are studying equivalent fractions, for fifth and sixth graders who are cementing their understanding of adding and subtracting fractions and grappling with multiplying and dividing fractions, and lastly, for older students who are at a loss about why fractions make sense!
A key feature of the fraction kit is that each student makes his or her own kit by folding, cutting and labeling different-colored strips of paper. This hands-on approach is an important beginning to students' learning.
The Fraction Kit Guide is organized into three parts and includes Blackline Masters for instruction activities. It contains 8 colors of paper strips, 30 sets; 8 colors of magnetic strips, 1 set; 2 colors of fraction dice, 15 each; 30 plastic storage bags; and The Fraction Kit Guide written by Marilyn Burns.
