Rock Cycle Treasures: A Search for Natural Resources Kit (Teacher-Developed, Classroom-Tested) |
Teacher Dennis Dougherty sought to put the logic into geologic with this kit and we think he's struck pay-dirt! Students learn about natural resources and geological formations through a series of engaging, hands-on activities.
Working in teams, students put their reasoning skills to the test as they attempt to locate natural resources such as gold or oil and gas in underground formations.
They use log and core data sheets to plot "strike" zones, actually drill for potential ore deposits; and perform other real-world applications of the geological sciences. Grades 8-9.
Includes: drill kit box, 2 channeled foam boards, 12 blocks colored clay, four 3.5cm hand held "drill rigs", two 7.5cm hand held "drill rigs", 35-page teacher guide with 9 activity worksheets and 16 reproducible handouts.
