Introduce students to protein and amino acid analysis and identification
The contents of this kit will enable students to perform six tests: Ninhydrin test for proteins and amino acids, the Biuret test for protein, solubility studies of amino acids, the lead sulfide test for cysteine and cystine, the Sakaguchi test for arginine, and the xanthoproteic test for tyrosine and trytophan.
Includes: one vial each of albumin, gelatin, glutamic acid, glycine, cysteine, cystine, arginine, tyrosine, tryptophan, lead acetate, ninhydrin reagent, and an unknown amino acid, one bottle each of biuret reagent, NaOH, naphthol, and sodium hypochlorite, 6 student data sheets, and an instructor's manual. Also includes assessment manuals and scoring sheets.
(Please note: Concentrated nitric acid and ethanol are required but not included.)
