The Sun, Seasons and Constellations Model (Teacher-Developed, Classroom-Tested) |
Sallie Smith came up with this illuminating demonstration that helps students understand seasonal changes and why different constellations are visible at different times of the year. Using a raised relief globe, an infra-red lamp and 3 LCD thermometers, they explore concepts of seasonal and regional temperature variation; equinox and solstice; and rotation and orbit. Using the included constellation drawings, students stand in different “regions” of the sky facing the Earth, illustrating how the constellations appear to change relative to Earth. Grades 5-9. Includes: raised relief globe, infra-red lamp and reflector, 3 LCD thermometers, instructions.
