Reduce, Reuse, Recycle: A Plastics Identification Kit (Teacher-Developed, Classroom-Tested) |
Plastic, plastic everywhere... but what do we really know about it? What are those numbers and symbols on the bottom of plastic milk jugs and take out containers? What do Silly Putty® and Saran Wrap® have in common? How does one dispose of this ubiquitous material? This kit is designed to make your students "plastic literate" and to increase their awareness of plastics in everyday use. Activities include interpreting recycling symbols on plastic materials, and performing scientific tests (density, alcohol, etc.) to identify various types of plastics. Grades 7-10. Includes: three sets of 10 different type plastic samples, alcohol, medicine cups, spoons, labels, acetone, oil and instructions. Students are also encouraged to bring in plastic samples from home.
