Population Dynamics |
With its emphasis on experimental design and critical thinking, this intriguing lab is sure to stimulate student interest and get them involved. Students perform a series of experiments which focus on population dynamics and problems. They compare different types of vegetation using leaf area indices; study the effects of competition with different population densities and resource availability; survey the problems of monocultures and low population densities; and explore biodiversity and niche differentiation in a lab that can be extrapolated to rain forest issues. Grades 6-12. Includes: materials for up to 10 lab groups; pedagogical guide; growing guide; teacher and student guides; watering/growing system; rapid radish seeds; medium; fertilizer; natural bristle brushes for hand pollinating; and all other required materials.
