Where are rocks formed and how are they changed and used? Investigating Rocks by Natalie Lunis and Nancy White features beautiful photographs depicting the origins of and uses for rocks, with explanatory text that promotes independent reading and helps build science literacy. The book talks about the Earth's crust; collecting, studying and classifying rocks; erosion; and using rocks in art and other applications. They learn that chunks of rocks come in many sizes - from boulders to grains of sand to even smaller, that objects can be described in terms of the mateials they are made of and their physical properties, and that waves, wind, water and ice shape and reshape the Earth's land surface by eroding rock and soil.
