Inference Boards — Patterns in Electric Circuits Kit (Teacher-Developed, Classroom-Tested) |
Here’s an excellent activity that teaches students the difference between observation and inference. Developed by physics teacher Bruce Sherbeck, this lab uses ‘inference boards’ to demonstrate how inferences are made from a series of observations. Each of the 10 differently wired inference boards is designed with six contacts whose wiring is concealed. Students test each contact with a circuit tester in order to infer the wiring scheme of the board. Once finished, students answer questions that allow them to analyze their inferences. Kit includes materials for 10 lab stations including lamp and socket, battery holder, wire, inference boards, and complete instructions. Requires ‘D’ cell batteries you supply. Partial assembly is required.
