This is a book of original short stories designed to attract and hold the interest of students who are reading below grade level. Readability levels vary from story to story; but aside from more challenging vocabulary words that are introduced in prereading, the reading levels vary from 2.6 to 4.0.
Low reading levels are achieved through the use of controlled vocabulary, simple sentence structure, and clear graphic design. Interesting plots, realism, and relevance to student tastes are pricipal elements of these stories. The questions and student activity sheets are designed to improve the reading comprehension skills of remedial readers. The stories and activities can be used as part of a teacher-directed lesson or assigned as independent work.
