As the concept of convection is common to many geophysical and astronomical processes, the knowledge gained with this lab can be applied to such diverse subjects as atmospheric and mantle circulation and stellar and supernova collapse convection. Here, by mixing warm and cold water, or salt water and fresh water - dyed for visibility - students can easily see convection currents form. They can also model the development of wind due to convection. Includes: all necessary materials for 5 lab groups, teacher's guide, student worksheets.
