Very simple to grow - all you do is add water. Triops hatch in 24 hours, double in size daily (will grow to approximately 1" max), perform amazing aqua-batics, range in color from blue to green, and breathe through their feet!!
Unchanged since the Triassic period, the tadpole shrimp (scientific name Triops longicaudatus), has earned the nick name "living dinosaur". Triops are small but ferocious predators that inhabit temporary bodies of water subject to total drying. They are crustaceans that look like miniature horseshoe crabs and can be found naturally in many parts of the world.
From eggs the young quickly move through several larval stages, shedding their exoskeletons each time. This amazing animal has a shield-shaped carapace, three compound eyes and 35 to 71 pairs of leaf-like legs.
