Boreal Chemistry of Fats Molecular Model Kit |
Why do fats and oils store twice as much energy (and thus require twice as much energy to break down) as sugars and starches? Your students can see the answer in the models they'll build with this kit. By building models of lipids, students can visualize the molecular structures of the fats they consume every day. The models can be manipulated to illustrate the characteristic glycerol and fatty acid sub-units and the synthesis of triglycerides. Students will also be able to visualize the difference between unsaturated and saturated fats, and how these fats affect human body functions. The entire lab can be completed in one period. Includes: 10 complete molecular model packets with single and double bonding tubes, and carbon, hydrogen, and oxygen atom models; and complete instructions featuring a teacher's guide with answers, and a reproducible student guide with background information, step-by-step procedures and hand-in worksheets.
