Frequently Asked Questions
GENERAL INFORMATION
I am not a teacher. Can I still place an order?
Yes, you can still order from us. You do not need to be a teacher to order. However, you do need to be a teacher to order materials that are flagged with the "restricted" button.
Is there sales tax on my order?
For all orders shipping to CA, NC, SC, SD, WA, and AR, we will add your local sales tax rate. For non-school orders (individuals and home-schools) in NY, we will add your local tax rate.
Can Science Kit ship overseas?
We are currently unable to ship orders outside of the United States. For Candadian customers, please visit the website of our Canadian offices - Boreal Laboratories. For all other international orders, please visit Ward's Natural Science, a company with years of experience in science education.
Can I order a paper copy of your catalog?
Due to the large size of our catalog, Science Kit sends catalogs to schools only. If you have trouble finding an item on the website, please contact our customer service department at 1-800-828-7777.
Is there an additional handling charge for ordering over the internet?
There is no additional fee for ordering via the SK Website. In fact, when you place your order online, you receive special discounts for web customers only. Visit our Web Specials page for special pricing on select items, and be sure to sign up for our e-mail list to receive notices about sales.
Do you have a store where I can pick these items up?
We do not have a store. If you are in the Buffalo, NY area, you can come to our offices to pick up your items. Not all items are available for pick up, so we recommend phoning ahead. This will also allow us to have your in stock items ready for you when you arrive.

How do I send my shopping cart to my Purchasing Office?
Once you have finished adding items to your cart, click on "Save Shopping Cart." Enter your e-mail address and password (optional), then enter the e-mail addresses of anyone to whom you would like to send the shopping cart.
When you click "Save Cart", a message will be sent to your address as well as the addresses that you entered with a link to your shopping cart.
How long is my "saved" shopping cart accessible?
The website will keep your shopping cart information for 365 days from the last time you saved it.

What credit cards do you accept?
We accept Visa, Mastercard, American Express and Discover.
If I use a school purchase order, what are your terms?
Our terms are Net 30 Days F.O.B. Tonawanda, NY or San Luis Obispo, CA. However, we only accept purchase orders from schools. We require prepayment for individuals, home- schoolers, and businesses.
What if my school won't let me place orders online?
Our shopping cart has a "print" feature, as well as a "save" feature. So you can utilize the convenience of a website to build your order, then use one of these handy features to submit your order through your school's normal purchasing process. The "print order" feature will allow you to print the contents of your cart quickly and easily. The "saved cart" feature will allow you to e-mail the contents of your cart to your department chair, a colleague, or purchasing agent.
What if I want to place an order with Science Kit, but I don't have a credit card?
You can use the website to build your order, then simply use the "print order" feature found in the shopping cart. This will allow you to print a copy of your order. Then, all you have to do is mail the order with a check or money order, and we'll ship your merchandise to you.
Besides for placing orders online, how can orders be submitted to Science Kit?
We accept orders via phone (800-828-7777), e-mail (sk@sciencekit.com), fax (800-828-3299) and by mail (777 East Park Drive, PO Box 1005, Tonawanda, NY 14151).
Do you include an invoice with the shipment?
An itemized invoice will be sent under separate cover through the U.S. Mail.
PRODUCT INFORMATION
Why are some items on your website restricted?
Science Kit must ship and bill all chemicals, bacteria cultures, preserved materials and syringes with needles directly to schools. We do not sell these items to individuals (non-educators or home-schoolers), nor can we ship them to an individual "in care of" a school.
Do you have a preview policy?
For schools, we offer a 30 Day Preview of microscopes, software, books, or non-consumable items. We will even pay for shipping and handling!
Do your items come with a Warranty?
Boreal Microscopes come with our Lifetime, No Cost, No Hassle Warranty. The warranty covers defects in materials or workmanship. The warranty does not cover light bulbs, fuses, routine cleaning or normal wear and tear.
Spectrophotometers are backed by a limited three year warranty on parts and labor for any defect in material or workmanship. The warranty does not cover lamps, glassware, or other expendable items.
All other items are backed by our 30-Day Money Back Guarantee. If you are not completely satisfied with your product, you can return it for a full refund. After 30 days, each product is subject to the manufacturer's warranty.
SHIPPING INFORMATION
What is your shipping charge?
Our web site will calculate the shipping charges, which is based on your merchandise total (for standard ground shipping), with a minimum $7.00 charge.
Living materials, hazardous chemicals and items that are required to ship motor freight are subject to additional shipping charges.
What carriers do you use?
We use FedEx Ground and UPS. We will ship parcel post to a P.O. Box. Some items may be required to ship motor freight. Living Materials may be shipped Airborne Express, by 2nd Day Air. For these we require a street address and our carriers will not deliver said materials to a post office box.
How do I tell you how to ship my order?
If you have a preference of which shipper to use, or would like your order to ship overnight or second day air, please use the text box located on the last page of the checkout process.
How long will it take to receive my order?
We will ship in stock items by the end of the next business day, guaranteed - or we will pay your shipping charges. Please allow 5-7 business days for your items to arrive.
Do you have express shipping?
We offer Priority Overnight (guaranteed delivery before noon on the next business day), Standard Overnight Service (guaranteed delivery before 5pm on the next business day) and Second Day Air (guaranteed delivery before 5pm on the second business day). To take advantage of these shipping options you must specify a street address as our carriers will not deliver to a post office box.
Additional shipping charges apply for express shipments, based on the weights and dimensions of your package(s). You will be notified prior to shipment of any additional charges.
Can I get tracking information online once my order ships?
Visit the My Account page to get tracking infomation. Please note, order and tracking information may take up to 48 hours to show up on the website. For information regarding your order, please e-mail sk@sciencekit.com or call our Customer Service Department at 1-800-828-7777.
RETURNS
What is your return policy?
Damaged Items
Please e-mail sk@sciencekit.com or call 1-800-828-7777 as soon as you receive the damaged item. We will arrange for a pick up of the damaged merchandise at no charge to you. A no-charge replacement or credit (your choice) will be processed promptly.
Exchanges & Returns for Credit If an item is not satisfactory, please e-mail sk@sciencekit.com or call 800-828-7777 within 30 days of receipt of your order to arrange the return. If you simply change your mind about a product, you can still return it to us, but Science Kit will not be responsible for return shipping charges. All returned items must be unused and able to be re-stocked.
SECURITY & PRIVACY INFORMATION
Do you sell my personal information to other companies?
No. Never. During the sciencekit.com registration process, we ask you to provide us with contact information, such as name, address, email address, and phone number. We do not sell, rent, or share any customer information that we collect on our site except for the purposes described here and to our suppliers for the same purposes. By contract, third parties must comply with their own privacy policies with regard to the renting, selling, or sharing of information.
Will I get junk mail at my e-mail address?
We will only send email to keep you informed about the status of your orders or if we have questions about your order.
Do you use cookies?
Sciencekit.com uses software tags called "cookies" to identify customers and track shopping baskets when they visit our site. Additionally, cookies help us to identify returning users so that we don't ask them to register with every visit. The information we collect with cookies is not sold, rented, or shared with any outside parties. We cannot provide a total secured shopping experience to users whose browsers are set to reject cookies.
Do you log or track each visit I make to the Science Kit Website?
Sciencekit.com maintains log files of the traffic that visits the sciencekit.com site. We do not link any information gathered in these log files to personally identifying information. Log files are used to manage traffic loads and information technology requirements for providing reliable service. Information collected includes IP addresses and browser types.
How do I update my user information?
Users can update or correct their personal information on sciencekit.com by changing their profile information in the "My Account" section. If you have and questions, e-mail us at sk@sciencekit.com.
How is my personal information protected online and at your offices?
All information, including credit card information, gathered on the sciencekit.com site is stored and maintained in secure facilities that limit access to authorized personnel only.
Our personnel can only access the information through a series of access-control procedures. Our employees must use password-protected screen-savers when they leave their desk. When they return, they must enter their password to re-gain access to your information.
All sciencekit.com employees are briefed about the company's privacy and security policies on a regular basis. The sciencekit.com Web site is regularly tested for security breaches to ensure that all information collected is secure from unauthorized viewing.
We currently employ Secured Socket Layer (SSL) security protocol. While on a secure page, such as our order form, the lock icon on the bottom of Web browsers such as Netscape Navigator and Microsoft Internet Explorer becomes locked, as opposed to un-locked, or open, when you are just 'surfing'.
